Molecule
- A molecule is in general a group of two or more atoms that are chemically bonded together.
- A molecule can be defined as the smallest particle of an element or a compound that is capable of an independent existence and show all the properties of that substance.
- Atoms of the same elements join together to form molecules then it is called homo molecules. Ex-H2, and O2.
- Atoms of the different elements join together to form molecules then it is called hetero molecules. Ex- H2O, SO2
Monoatomic:
When molecule consisting of only one atom then it is called monoatomic.
Ex- Argon(Ar) , Helium(He)
Diatomic:
A molecule which contains two atoms then it is called diatomic.
Ex- H2, O2.
Triatomic:
A molecule which contain three atoms then it is called triatomic.
Ex- Phosphorus (P3)
Polyatomic:
A molecule which contain four atoms then it is called polyatomic.
Ex- Sulphur(S4)
